We followed Jackson’s cotton candy to the parking lot and took a bus to Jiao Tong University. We visited University of Michigan Joint Institute, and met three international students, and one of them is from Huron high school, and he guided us to lab, stadium and cafeteria. Jiao Tong University is big, and there is a nice pond and many beautiful flowers are blooming.
The bazaar in shanghai was incredible. The shops and atmosphere were unlike anything I had ever seen before. The lunch that we had inside the bazaar was just as incredible. Definitely my favorite part of the trip so far. Shanghai was really fun, I don’t know if I want to leave it. It was a lot less crowded than I expected. I’m looking forward to Hangzhou. I really liked Shanghai. It wasn’t extremely busy and crowded, which I liked a lot. I’m really looking forward to Hangzhou because I don’t now really anything about it. I hope the food in Hangzhou is as good as the food was in Shanghai. I really liked the Jellyfish that I had at lunch yesterday. I also liked the fish eyes. I can’t wait to go back to Hangzhou, as it is so incredibly beautiful. Having the atmosphere of the holiday crowd as we sight see. Shanghai was really fun, I’m so sad to be leaving! I can’t wait for Hangzhou though since it’s supposed to be a holiday resort for a lot of Chinese people. I really learned so much in Shanghai. The garden was beautiful but so crowded. Definitely a great people-watching place. It was fun trying to get a soda from a place where no one spoke English. Looking forward to what Hangzhou has to offer. Some notes from one of the chaperones on the trip, Ben Griffith.
These are pictures of the largest Pagoda in China. Built 2000 years ago, destroyed in war 600 years ago, rebuilt 70 year ago. When we stop for a group photo crowds gather to take our picture as many Chinese have never seen Americans in person. Our varied colors, hair and clothing is unusual. Hard to remember WE are the foreigners. Also, some pictures from lunch Sunday (4/5). All meals have served 'family' style with plenty of local flare. Shrimp, fish, spinach, and soup at every lunch and dinner. Kids are all bonding as a group and really enjoying each other and looking out for each other Blog 2: April 4, 2015, on an overcast day, we took the bus to the river where we viewed the tall skyscrapers fading into the clouds. The tall buildings along the third longest river in the world were shrouded in the mist of the clouds where their heights could only be imagined.
We walked along the Bund and there were a lot of Chinese people trying to take pictures of us! After eating lunch we bought some cotton candy, and shared it between each other. I am visiting my dad's home country and I am very excited because I never thought I could ever be in China. Thanks a lot, Mrs. Wu. It's now 2:00 in the afternoon and we are on our way to the University. I especially enjoy the bus rides and being able to observe sights as we drive by. Don't tell him I said this but since we've arrived from the plane ride I'm convinced that our guide is racist. The first lecture he gave us was about how the Middle Eastern population of China, who all don't look like us, were mostly terrorists. The Bazaar and Yu garden were amazing sights. The restaurant where we had lunch was phenomenal as well. So far I've had tons of fun. The food so far has been on point. They served us jellyfish at one restaurant, I'm a fan. I've really liked all of the food we've had so far. My favorites are the fish eyes and jellyfish. The jellyfish was good because I didn't know what it was at first. It has been really nice to continue to get to know everyone--making the experience that much better. The food has continued to amaze me with how delicious it is, as well as the culture that we are being emerged in. I have been having a great time and can't wait to continue exploring. I feel very proud of trying so many new foods. I am definatly having a wonderful time and I am learning so much! We followed Jackson's cotton candy to the parking lot and take a bus to Jiao Tong University. Arriving at the Detroit Metro Airport, we all successfully checked in our bags, and made our way to the gate. We are waiting to take off and are hoping for an amazing trip. Everyone is very excited to have a wonderful adventure. We are waiting for the flight to take off. After we got through security, we went on walk through the airport, looking for a candy store. We didn't find it! One of the chaperones lost his glasses, but by grace of God and the power of physics it turned out that he had simply left them in his bag. Our Chinese teacher has made repeated attempts to capture us, Chinese students and parents alike, in compromising positions of cheerfulness, but we will never yield to her subversive attacks on our public image. Oh yes also the plane is incredibly hot and someone just got shot by a cop in the book I €a™m reading. We are all so very excited to be traveling to China this spring! We have all been anticipating this since early October, and the fact that it is finally happening is nothing short of surreal. We are beyond ecstatic to see what is in store for us once we land in Shanghai.
The plane is incredibly hot but it is okay because I can sit next to my best bud Mike J. There is a maintenance issue (something to do with the falange), so we've been sitting back and waiting to enjoy the flight. I a™m really excited to finally be going to China!!! I ha€™ve been looking forward to this trip for a really long time. I hope that they fix the issue with the plane fast so we can finally get on our way to China. The plane will take off at 1:00pm on April 2, and which is the mid night in China. It will be 13 hour flight, and we will land at Pu Dong airport on 2:30pm on April 3. I hope we all could take a good sleep on the plane, because after we landing, and put our stuff away, we will Stroll along the Bund to see fascinating array of architectural styles. I wonder what the dinner will be? I couldn't wait for the real Chinese food. We stayed up late to help with the time change and I am pretty tired. Reading while we wait for takeoff but I plan to have a good nap at some point. My first time on a plane this big a I feel like a country bumpkin! Very excited to travel with this group. Everyone seems really nice! The plane is huge!! It has two levels to it, and is completely full. To be honest I was kind of scared to get on a plane this size, the turbulence is kind of freaking me out too, so that doesn'™t help. Besides that the flight has been really peaceful so far (everyone is sleeping, probably what I should be doing too!!!) Still 8 more hours until we land in Shanghai!! We all slept very well, and the breakfast is buffet! Tomorrow, we leave for China at 11:30. Here's the itinerary for the first day:
Day 1-4/03---Arrive Shanghai Hotel: a deluxe four-star hotel in the center of the city Stroll along the Bund to see fascinating array of architectural styles, and on Nanking Road, the “Fifth Avenue” of Shanghai. |
